InstaDL how-to guide

How to copy an Instagram link on any device

A copied post URL is the starting point for any browser-based Instagram downloader. Here is the quick, reliable way to copy a public link without needing to sign in to InstaDL.

The short version

  1. Open the public Instagram post, Reel, Story, photo, or video.
  2. Use the share icon or the three-dot menu.
  3. Choose Copy link, then paste it into the matching InstaDL tool.

Copy a link in the Instagram app

On iPhone and Android, open the item you want to reference and look for the share icon. On many posts and Reels, it looks like a paper airplane. Tap it, then select Copy link. If you see a three-dot menu instead, open it and look for the same option.

The copied URL remains on your clipboard. Switch to your browser, open InstaDL, and paste it in the field. A complete public URL normally begins with https://www.instagram.com/.

Copy a link on desktop

Open the public post in your browser. You can copy the address directly from the address bar, or use the share menu and select Copy link. Copying from the address bar is often the simplest method for public posts, Reels, photos, and videos.

If Copy link is unavailable

Private accounts, expired Stories, deleted media, or content restricted by Instagram may not provide a usable public URL. InstaDL only works with supported public content. Do not try to bypass privacy settings, and make sure you have the right to save or reuse any media.

Common questions

Can I copy a link without an Instagram account?

Public content may be viewable in a browser, but Instagram can require login depending on the content and its current settings.

Why does a copied link not work?

Check that the post is public, still available, and that the whole URL was copied. Shortened, incomplete, private, or expired links can fail.
